What is Crayta?

Crayta was a Roblox-like game creation platform developed by Unit 2 Games, a subsidiary of Meta under Facebook Gaming. The Crayta Engine was built using Unreal Engine 4 but was focused on accessibility and shared many similarities with the Unity Engine. Creators could use a voxel-based engine to create their 3D game worlds, similar to Minecraft. They could add game logic by writing Lua scripts or follow a no-code approach by relying on Tools by other developers called Packages. UI elements and logic could be created with Crayta's HTML, CSS and JS based Gameface API.

It was initially exclusive to Google Stadia (also now shut down). Crayta later became available on PC via the Epic Games Store and through Meta's platforms like Facebook Gaming.

However, Crayta was officially shut down on all platforms on March 3, 2023. This decision was made due to insufficient growth, as announced by Unit 2 Games. Creators and Players were advised to document their work through screenshots or videos since all created content would become inaccessible post-shutdown.

What did I have to do with it?

I was the youngest developer to be a part of Crayta's Ignition Contract Programme, which was awarded to only the top creators on the platform. After creating several games and tools that became very popular on the platform, I was approached by the Crayta team to be a part of Ignition so I could better enhance Crayta's creator ecosystem and tools. I worked with the Crayta team and other top creators on a contract basis and developed many amazing tools and experiences on the platform.
